Abstract

The phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) is growing in the digital era, especially among the younger generation who are active in the workplace and use social media. FOMO gives rise to social anxiety, imbalance between personal and professional life, and a decline in spiritual quality. This study aims to understand the experiences of individuals experiencing FOMO in the work-life context, and how the values and teachings of Islamic education play a role in maintaining work-life balance. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, focusing on the development of social media.

The results show that FOMO impacts work stress, impaired focus on religious devotion, and a tendency to compare oneself socially. However, Islamic values such as qana'ah (sufficiency), tawakal (surrender to Allah), muhasabah (self-reflection), and Islamic time management can provide spiritual strength in dealing with these pressures. Islamic education has been proven to play a strategic role in fostering self-awareness, digital ethics, and a balanced life orientation between this world and the hereafter. This study recommends strengthening contextual Islamic education in the workplace and educational environments to equip the next generation to face modern psychosocial challenges such as FOMO.
